SACRAMENTO WOMEN TAKE BACK THE NIGHT
34th Annual Rally and March
Sacramento, CA – The 34th annual Sacramento Women Take Back the Night (WTBN) Rally and March will take place on October 12, 2013 at the Sacramento Native American Health Center | 2020 J Street, Sacramento, CA. The aim of Sacramento Take Back the Night is to raise awareness and educate the public on issues of violence against women, as well as to celebrate women and girls, and support and empower survivors.
The evening will kick-off with a resource fair at 5:30pm, which will feature information tables staffed by our local co-sponsors and will continue throughout the Rally to provide information about the crucial services offered to survivors of violence in our community. The Rally will kick-off at 6pm and include a survivor speak-out, dynamic speakers on the topic of violence against women, dance, spoken word, and music. At 8pm we will take to the streets in protest- a tradition that has been held in Sacramento since 1979.
Take Back the Night will feature remarks by emcee Keyko Torres-Oki; Camille Hayes, author of “Get Out of My Crotch”, Nichoel Menicucci of WEAVE, Elizabet Medina of Opening Doors. Performances by Jenn Rogar, Mallory Fites of WORD (Women Organized to Resist and Defend), Get Your Feet Wet Productions, self-defense instructor Midge Marino, Sacramento Taiko Dan and more! Come out and bring your friends and family for an incredible night of activism, energy, and commitment to end all forms of violence against women and girls!
In 2012, the 33rd annual Sacramento WTBN Rally and March engaged over 500 attendees with over 150 people participating in the march. This year’s WTBN Rally and March will again draw a significant crowd during the busy Second Saturday evening. Sacramento WTBN is well-known in the Sacramento anti-violence community with a history of organizing successful rallies and events.

ABOUT SACRAMENTO WOMEN TAKE BACK THE NIGHT
WTBN events have been held in Sacramento since 1979. The event is organized entirely by volunteers, with active participation from many community-based organizations. The march is the highlight of the evening when women walk through the night and reclaim the streets, which for many years have been sources of fear and violence. A crucial aspect of WTBN is the safe space it provides for survivors of domestic and sexual violence to come forward with testimonials. The Sacramento event also provides activities for children and encourages men to become actively involved in the fight against violence. Take Back the Night is an empowering event that brings survivors, supporters, activists, and community leaders together in a call to end violence against women.
Sacramento WTBN is an entirely volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) nonprofit. As an organization, Sacramento WTBN is active year-round as a grass-roots organizer of and participant in awareness-building events. For two years, Sacramento WTBN has organized V-Day Sacramento, a community production of “The Vagina Monologues” that occurs in the spring.
