In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Sacramento Women Take Back the Night is excited to partner with Midge Marino of Trade Your Fear for Anger (TYFFA) and My Studio to offer TWO Women’s Self-Defense Workshops on Saturday, April 26th at My Studio!

While self-defense cannot guarantee that you will not be assaulted, it provides important education and options that can help to increase awareness and personal safety. One of the best tools of self-defense is understanding rape culture and raising awareness of common misconceptions and realities of sexual assault.

Did You Know?

FACT: 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men will experience sexual assault in their lifetime. Further, 80% of female victims of rape experienced their first rape before the age of 25 and almost half experience their first rape before age 18, (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey. 2010).

FACT: Approximately 80% of rapes are committed by someone the victim knows – a friend, acquaintance, family member, or even intimate partner, (U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Statistics 1997 Sex Offenses and Offenders Study. 1997).

FACT: 9 out of 10 rape victims are female, (U.S. Department of Justice. 2003 National Crime Victimization Survey. 2003).
